Bass Fishing In Florida - What A Great Fishing Destination

Dean Caporella

Bass fishing in Florida. It doesn't get any better. The sunshine state is just the place to head to following a cold northern winter and many make the annual pilgrimage south for a bass fishing in Florida experience.

It seems every time I head to Florida, even on business, the fishing thing, you anglers know what I'm talking about, just wants to kick in. Driving through the pan handle area over some of the waterways; sometimes all I can think about is grabbing my gear and doing a little bass fishing in Florida.

The Commercial Angle

It is true that fishing is first and foremost associated with leisure and fun. However, there is another valid and equally popular reason for bass fishing in Florida and that is the commercial reason. There are a number of fishermen who adopted fishing as a profession and earn their livelihood from this occupation and the good news is that it is a highly profitable business.

The Types Of Commercial Fishing

People who make a living out of bass fishing in Florida follow one or a combination of the following methods of fishing: Long term leasing, Fish out operations, and Day leasing.

Long term leasing: With this type the fisherman gains exclusive rights of a pond or lake owned by an individual or a group of persons. In this case the management of the water body falls on the lessee; so does all the fishing products that accrue from that water body over the period of lease.
Fish out method: This method implies a very simple method. The owner fills the water body with fish and then charges the angler by the pound or by the piece of the fish he can catch. Not all the fish species can be used for this type of venture since it takes time for a good game fish to grow, and the lake fish level should be maintained at a higher rate than naturally possible. Most of the time catfish is used.
Day leasing: This method is where bass fishing in Florida section falls into. In this method, the owner ensures that the lake has enough fish and leases the pond on a daily basis. The management and maintenance of the lake is obviously the job of the owner. The most common fish caught are largemouth bass and bluegill which are sometimes specifically released in the pond/ lake for fishing purposes.

Bass fishing in Florida attracts anglers from all over the country. While we've discussed the commercial angle in this bass fishing article, please don't forget the recreational aspects of bass fishing in Florida. Whether it's wholly and solely a fishing trip you want to take or combine fishing with other activities, then you can't Florida as a destination.
