Bass Fishing Technique - Some Tips To Improve Your Catch!

J D Dean

Bass fishing is more than just a sport or challenge for many anglers, it's a social outing; a time to get together with friends and have a few laughs, tell some tall stories and make a few memories. However, the bottom line is the main reason you are casting a line is to catch fish so let's examine some bass fishing technique to give you the best chance of snagging that elusive monster.

Bass Fishing Technique - The "Doodling" Method

This technique is effective in deep water and involves fishing with worms. It is a repetitive method and some may lose patience particularly if the fish are quiet. But the reason for doodling the bass is to get their attention. Bacically, drop the bait to a depth you're happy with and then give the rod a shake. Wait 30-45 seconds and repeat the shaking for just few seconds and then slowly pull the rod up a few inches. Drop it down and repeat the same steps again.

Bass Fishing Technique _ Night Fishing

Night fishing during the spring and summer can be a lot of fun however, because of the lack of light it could also be a little risky when you are out in a boat. Bass tend to find shallow water during the night in search for food and night fishing can be quite a productive exercise. During summer, bass may go looking for cooler water in deeper depths during the day to escape the heat which means waiting for them at night can produce some nice results when they head back to shallow water looking for a feed.

More Bass Fishing Technique

We're often asked whether casting methods are different for clear and dirty water. In clear water, a technique called pitching will give better results. This basically involves a wristy action and is suited for long distance pitching, usually up to 20-30 feet away. In murky water, a technique called flipping is preferred however, this could take a little more skill to master as accuracy in landing the lure on target is required.

In fact, wrist action and concentration are vital in both techniques. Many anglers often get confused in distinguishing between a strike and just ordinary movement in the line. Inexperienced fishermen can often go before acceptances and start reeling in a line at the slightest tug on the line but the trick is to no the difference between a fish strike and water tug on the line.
