How Important Is The Bass Fishing Lure?

What sets the best bass fisherman apart from the run of the mill fishers? Quite simply, the better fisherman understand the importance of using the right gear for the right situation and an important part of this equation is the bass fishing lure. It's not just a matter of using the right gear; it's more in the execution and the better anglers know and understand this.

Bass Fishing Lure Etiquette

It must be confusing for inexperienced anglers when shopping for the right bass fishing lure given the enormous range of lures on the market. How do you choose? For starters, you need to know the location your fishing. If travelling to a new destination I've found one of the best ways to learn about an unfamiliar location is to simply speak with the locals. It's a "horses for courses" thing and a little time spent gathering information will be well worth the effort.

Just launching any bass fishing lure into the water and hoping a fish with grab your line is likely to leave you disappointed and frustrated. Understand your bass. When you do this you will have a strong idea as to what lure to use in the appropriate situation.

Bass fishing lures today are available in all shapes and sizes. Lures are great imitators; they not only imitate the fish but they also imitate worms and their movement as well as flies which skim the waters to attract the bass. Lures that make a low buzzing sound are attractants for bass and are popular among anglers while lures imitating crabs and crayfish are available in different variations. Then there are crank lures which resemble fish with very large mouths. Once you understand the role of the lure, you'll be amazed at how easily it will be to distinguish between the right and wrong lure for the job at hand.

But That's Not All!

How about the classic bass fishing lure like spinner baits among the more traditional lures; the pro series jig with dual rattles; the tournament series spinner bait which is a favorite amongst tournament fisherman and possibly the noisiest lure on the market, the clacking buss bait.

It's A Combination Of Things

Understanding the bass fishing lure is just one piece to the fishing puzzle. It's not going to guarantee you fishing success. It's one of a combination of areas you need to become proficient in but it's certainly a good start. Using the right rod, locating prosperous areas, locating the fish etc. etc. Fishing can seem a heck of a lot easier once you learn the basics
