Learn Good Bass Fishing Boat Practices

Dean Caporella

For many, fishing and boats are like a nail and hammer... they're a match. The question of a bass fishing boat comes up a lot and there is no simple answer to what is the right bass fishing boat to use. I guess it's what works best for you.

Instead of asking what bass fishing boat works best, the real issue should be understanding exactly how you should behave. What are the best bass fishing boat practices to follow? Get these right and with a combination of other factors such as rod, reel, bait and positioning, your chances of landing a bass will be greatly enhanced.

Safety for mine is a key issue. Before you even think of setting out on the lake with your bass fishing boat, ignore good safety practice and you're in a spot of bother.

Bass Fishing Boat And Safety

Safety should always be the first and foremost concern for any activity. In the course of time, more accidents happen because the minimum requirements for safety are taken very casually. A word of advice: never climb on a boat unless you have thoroughly been convinced that it has been checked and it is safe for sailing.

Some Basics For Boat Safety

Do not engage a motor of a higher power than your boat is supposed to support
Do take up the basic safety boating course which most harbors offer
Ensure that the pedestal seats on your bass are lowered to a comfortable position (especially in front)
Always wear safety inflated jackets and whatever equipment that is required for your safety on board
Check before you start the trip that all the clothing, loose hanging things as well as your tackles are properly secured
Ensure that your ‘engine cut-off switch” is working; never go before checking this
Do not go fishing under the influence of alcohol
Ensure that you keep the minimum distance between your boat and other fishermen’s boats.
Take any warning signs you find in the water very seriously
Do not fish and drive the boat at the same time; you may lose control of boat and suffer lost fish or a life-threatening accident

Bass Fishing Boat Tips For Best Positioning

If the place has a deeply submerged structure, then you should position the boat right on the top of the structure at a ninety degree angle.
If the fish is near the bank, then position your boat parallel to the bank
If you are in front of a steep vertical construction make your boat parallel with it
If you are faced with strong currents, stabilize the boat by using both front ad rear anchors

Follow the above bass fishing boat advice and your bass fishing experience should be an enjoyable one. Ignore any of the above, and you are putting yourself at unnecessary risk and danger. After awhile, it becomes second nature, and you'll find yourself performing these bass fishing boat practices instinctively.
