Let's Go Bass Fishing In CaliforniaDean CaporellaCalifornia... sunshine, beaches, movie stars, great holiday spots and yes, bass fishing. Bass fishing in California is now so popular they may have to shift Disneyland. Just kidding.
Seriously though, California offers some wonderful bass fishing opportunities. While striped bass angling is essentially done all year round, fishing really starts to hot up about March because of the warmer waters. When the stripers start leaving the bays and heading upstream for spawning bass fishing in California is the place to be. There are many small and large lakes in California that attract a great deal of bass fisherman. Some of the more popular lakes include: Don Pedro, Folsom, Mohave, Shasta Lake, Sonoma, San Antonio, Camanche, Isabella, and Amador Lake. Lots of the best bass fishing in California takes place at those lakes. Many web sites have more extensive lists of the best places for bass in California. Many people bass fish because of the adrenaline rush of conquering nature, getting that huge fish in their nets, and the struggle between man and nature as they attempt to bring in the “big one”. This is a very basically understood ideology and is very popular among many different generational and societal divides. Activities like fishing take place in almost any country that there is water and fish to catch. The Biggest Catch There are several bass fishermen or anglers that “trophy fish”, meaning they attempt to capture and release the biggest bass they can find. For this reason, cameras are often as much a requirement on a fishing boat as the actual fishing rods and the bait. Having a good reliable camera is very important for evidence and for showing off your catch. Don’t forget the extra batteries. For those that are bass fishing in California, it is also recommended that a scale is purchased to accurately weigh your bass and help bring in that prize you so richly deserve. Make sure you test and get proper certification and accuracy on your scale before you use it to prove your mettle to anyone. A measuring tape is also good here for measuring the length of the fish. Bring a pair of pliers to help with those pesky hooks that can get wedged into a bass’ mouth. Normally it is pretty simple, but sometimes those little creatures can get that hook wedged in a tricky area and a good solid pair of pliers can save a great deal of pain for the fish and a great deal of fidgeting around for you. Always be prepared. Finally, and very importantly, bring the right bass fishing gear. Clothing is an important aspect of bass fishing in California and being caught in a battle with a monster bass can be an exhausting experience. Besides, if you get on any sort of a run and need to spend more time outdoors then the appropriate clothing is vital. |
